A movie adaptation of the hit video game series The Sims has entered development with Barbie star Margot Robbie attached as producer. The series of life simulation video games began as a spin-off from the SimCity video game series, and the original game The Sims was released in February 2000. The 10th best-selling video game franchise of all-time, the series has sold more than 200 million copies, and generated over $5 billion. A live-action adaptation was first planned back in 2007, which languished in development hell, before being cancelled in 2019 due to Disney's acquisition of 20th Century Fox.
