When you've already taken to the skies and put the pedal to the metal for your craft, what comes next? Well, if you're Joseph Kosinski, the adrenalised director behind high flying legacy sequel Top Gun: Maverick and upcoming, asphalt chewing Brad Pitt vehicle F1, then the answer is... er... aliens. Naturally. Yes, THR are reporting that Kosinski is gearing up to reteam with his Maverick producer Jerry Bruckheimer on a UFO conspiracy thriller that's sparked major interest across Hollywood.
According to THR, Amazon, Apple, Lionsgate, Paramount, and Warner Bros. are all locked into a “quickly and aggressively” escalating bidding war for the project, a package that would see Kosinski calling the shots, Bruckheimer on deck as producer, and The Order and King Richardscribe Zach Baylin on script duty. Precious little is known about what the movie entails at this stage, or indeed who'd be in it, but the film has been eye-wideningly pitched as "All The President's Men with UFOs." And in case you needed any more reason to be curious about what Kosinski and co are cooking up, then the fact that former US Air Force officer — and current UFO/UAP whistleblower — David Grusch is reportedly acting as a consultant on the project, having testified before Congress only two years ago that the government has been studying alien bodies and spacecraft, will certainly do it.
Sighting of a new Kosinski UFO project on the horizon comes at a time where surprisingly few films have come along to even try and build on the critical and commercial success of Jordan Peele's 2022 Jaws-in-the-sky blockbuster Nope, a movie that showed us cinemagoers still want to believe. But with this incredibly exciting project, Pixar's upcoming extraterrestrial animation Elio, and Steven Spielberg's untitled event movie (that may or may not be called The Dish) all now well on their way, it looks like aliens are back on the menu, boys. We come in peace — with popcorn!
