John Wick is dead, long live John Wick! Whilst Keanu Reeves' mythic hitman may have seemingly met his maker on the steps of the Sacré-Cœur in John Wick: Chapter 4 (we never actually saw him croak it!), the John Wick Universe has continued to expand in his absence with the likes of hotelier origin series The Continental, Ana De Armas' upcoming quite literal bullet ballet Ballerina, and an in-development spin-off movie centred around Donnie Yen's blind assassin Caine. Now, per Deadline's reporting, The Old Man co-creator Robert Levine is penning John Wick: Under The High Table, a new TV series set directly after the end of the last Wick film.
Franchise star Reeves and Wickiverse head honcho Chad Stahelski are aboard to executive produce the series, with Stahelski — who helmed all four of the mainline Wick movies — set to direct the pilot episode. Little is known at this stage about what we can expect from Under The High Table, but along with confirmation of its direct John Wick 4 sequel status, a description given to Deadline promises the new show will "combine new and old and thrust the Wick universe into a new age." And given the way Reeves' last stand shook out, it would be fair to say that the balance of power at the eponymous High Table — the Wickiverse's all-powerful crime lord council — is about to shift.
As for who will star in the series and whether we can expect to see any familiar faces, the Deadline report simply suggests the new show will follow The Continental's blueprint, bringing all-new characters into the mix alongside familiar legacy names. All of this comes with no direct confirmation that Reeves is 100% out of the running to make a shock return in this series — or indeed the in the works John Wick 5. So as far as we're concerned, until a release date and a cast list is confirmed for Under The High Table or the fifth Wick film, our dreams of a John Wick sequel that takes Baba Yaga out of the criminal underworld and into the actual underworld remain alive and kicking!
