A fresh trailer for a Netflix show dropping is nothing new — in fact, for most of us, it's just another Wednesday. But a creepy, kooky, mysterious, spooky, and all together ooky fresh trailer for a Netflix show dropping? Well, that's a very specific, very hotly anticipated Wednesday. Yes, after two and a half years away, Tim Burton, Alfred Gough, and Miles Millar's supernatural horror-comedy-mystery series is nearly back — and Jenna Ortega's unblinking anti-hero Wednesday Addams is back too, ready to return to Nevermore Academy to solve a series of all-new morbid mysteries. Check out the trailer for the star-studded second season of Netflix's YA hit show below;
With her sophomore year at Nevermore Academy looming, parents Morticia (Catherine Zeta-Jones) and Gomez (Luis Guzmán) following close behind, and brother Pugsley (Isaac Ordonez) about to start school too, there's a lot on Wednesday Addams' morbidly inclined mind in our first look at Wednesday Season 2. While the cold open for the trailer leans into the show's gallowsian humour as we see Ortega's goth girl attempt to take knuckle dusters, knives, flails, and tasers through airport security, it's clear that we're in for a darker iteration of the Addams Family spin-off second time out. Sure, Emma Myers' spunky roomie Enid is back and on typically bright form, but so too is Hunter Doohan's barista-turned-Hyde Tyler — and the introduction of Steve Buscemi as eccentric new headmaster Principal Dort is just one of several mystery seeds sown by this teaser. (Also, we don't know if you noticed, but those dolls are seriously disturbing...)
Though the overall arc of Season 2 remains unknown at this point, co-creator Millar has teased more twists and turns afoot in the series ahead. "Nothing is what it seems in Season 2,” teased Millar to Netflix's Tudum. “Wednesday goes into this season thinking she knows Nevermore. It’s the first time she’s returned to a school willingly. But as soon as she gets back, nothing happens that she’s expecting. She thinks she’s going to be in control, that she knows where all the bodies are buried, and she doesn’t.”Among the seriously stacked ensemble who may or may not know where some of said bodies are buried in Wednesday Season 2 are *deep breath* Billie Piper, Joanna Lumley, Evie Templeton, Owen Painter, Noah Taylor, and Lady Gaga, the last of whom is set to make a guest starring appearance in an as yet unnamed role.
Alongside the new trailer for Wednesday's return, Netflix has also revealed that the second season is set to drop on the streamer in two parts, with the first arriving on 6 August and the second on 3 September. A month-long wait between episodes after a nearly three year wait for Season 2? Now that really is a nightmare. Still, we'll be glad to have our favourite sociopathic crime-solving teen back on our screens — and it's barely a *click click* away!
