Batman: Caped Crusader Images Unveil First Look At New Animated Series

If you’ve been living the 1990s dream over the past few weeks with every successive episode of X-Men ’97, you’re likely feeling despondent that Marvel’s throwback animated series has nearly reached its season finale. But fear not – get ready for DC’s throwback animated series with the arrival of Batman: Caped Crusader, due to arrive on Prime Video. It’s an all-new show, but inevitably arrives in the tradition of Batman: The Animated Series, one of the most beloved of all screen takes on the Dark Knight – and it comes from the powerhouse trio of JJ Abrams, Matt Reeves (behind The Batman and its upcoming sequel), and Bruce Timm (responsible not only for The Animated Series, but also Batman Beyond).

Now, the first images of the series have dropped – offering your first look at Batman, Bruce Wayne (hey, funny how you never see him and Batman in the same place, isn’t it?), Harley Quinn, Clayface, Jim Gordon and more. Take a look here:

The series is set entirely in the 1940s, placing it in its own continuity – and there’s been no casting confirmation yet. Notably, legendary Batman voice actor Kevin Conroy passed away unexpectedly in 2022, and it’s yet to be confirmed who’ll be stepping into the cowl. Here’s the official synopsis: “Welcome to Gotham City, where the corrupt outnumber the good, criminals run rampant and law-abiding citizens live in a constant state of fear. Forged in the fire of tragedy, wealthy socialite Bruce Wayne becomes something both more and less than human — the BATMAN. His one-man crusade for justice attracts unexpected allies within the GCPD and City Hall, but his heroic actions spawn deadly, unforeseen ramifications.”

The good news is, there won’t be long to wait – all 10 episodes of Batman: Caped Crusader will arrive on Prime Video on 1 August. Be sure not to venture down any dark alleys wearing a necklace of pearls in the meantime.
