Whilst we're still here trying to catch our breath and wolf down a post-match banana after Challengers, director Luca Guadagnino has already left the court to get the ball rolling on his next cinematic outing. And having already signed up Julia Roberts for upcoming thriller After The Hunt, the Italian auteur behind Bones And All and Call Me By Your Name seems to have tracked down his next leading man: Andrew Garfield.
As first reported by Deadline, the Spider-Man: No Way Home and Tick, Tick... BOOM! is currently in negotations to star alongside Roberts in the upcoming Amazon MGM Studios production, slated for theatrical release in 2025. Coming from first-time screenwriter Nora Garrett, the film, described as an "intense dramatic thriller", centres around a college professor (Roberts) who finds both her professional and private life thrown into turmoil when a star pupil levels a scandalous accusation against one of her colleagues. Matters are complicated when, as a consequence of the incident, a dark secret from her own past threatens to be revealed. So another cheerful, psychologically easy-going Guadagnino joint then!
We don't yet know who Garfield is set to play in the film, though it wouldn't be a stretch to imagine he's more likely to play the embattled and accused colleague than the star pupil here. And we also don't have a specific release date just yet beyond the movie's mooted 2025 drop, though you can be sure you'll find that info here just as soon as we get it. But before After The Hunt arrives (which is, we can be reasonably certain at this point, not actually a stealth Kraven The Hunter sequel), we can next expect to see Garfield starring opposite Florence Pugh in Brooklyn director John Crowley's A24 rom-com We Live In Time. And with Garfield movies coming thick and fast, what a time to live in!
