‘Anatomy of a Fall’ Has One of the Best Animal Performances Ever
Anatomy of a Fall may have won the Palme d'Or but there's one good boy in the movie that deserves all of the love.
Sure, the Palme d’Or is great and all, and 2023’s Anatomy of a Fall, which was nominated for five Oscars (winning for Best Original Screenplay), certainly deserved it in all its glory. However, the film's claiming of the top prize at this year’s Cannes Film Festival unfortunately overshadowed another incredible victory as a result: the Palm Dog! This should come as a surprise to absolutely no one who’s seen the film, given that it features the best animal performance of the year, but for those who think that the world’s most prestigious film festival is full of nothing besides pretentious elitists itching to corner you into a discussion about their top five Éric Rohmer movies, you’re only half right! Yes, the Cannes Film Festival was the premiere home of Apichatpong Weerasethakul’s Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives, but it was also the premiere home of Shrek, which competed for the Palme d’Or just the same!
