Why Hans Zimmer Didn't Score 'Tenet'

Hans Zimmer scored six of Christopher Nolan's films, but he turned down the offer to partner with him on Tenet. Here's why.

Why Hans Zimmer Didn't Score 'Tenet'

Since his early days behind the camera, Christopher Nolan has made a habit of working with frequent collaborators. From producers, cinematographers, editors, and, of course, actors like Cillian Murphy, Christian Bale, and Michael Caine, the auteur filmmaker has developed and nurtured strong professional relationships among numerous creative departments, and his work with legendary composer Hans Zimmer is no exception. Having enjoyed a lengthy and prolific collaboration beginning in 2005, Nolan and Zimmer have combined talents to marry image and sound to music in experimental and thrilling ways. But despite their synchronized partnership being a match made in heaven, Zimmer passed on the opportunity to work on Nolan's 2020 Tenet in favor of scoring another ambitious and epic film, interrupting one of modern cinema's most esteemed collaborations between composer and filmmaker.
