Timothée Chalamet, Demi Moore, And Conclave Win Big At The 2025 SAG Awards As Oscars Race Heats Up

Almost as soon as it's begun, awards season is rapidly approaching its end already. But before the red carpet gets rolled back up for another year after this coming Sunday's Oscars, last night we got to see Hollywood's finest gather at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, California for the 2025 SAG (Screen Actors Guild) Awards — hosted by Nobody Wants This' Kristen Bell. Unfolding in the aftermath of last month's devastating LA wildfires, an emotionally charged ceremony saw Timothée Chalamet, Demi Moore, and Edward Berger's Conclave emerge as the night's biggest winners, taking home Best Actor for Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown, Best Actress for The Substance, and Best Ensemble Cast respectively.

Given The Brutalist star Adrien Brody's recent successes at both the BAFTAs and the Golden Globes, as well as a host of other industry/guild/critics' circle awards, Chalamet's win was arguably the biggest surprise of the night. But then again, with all of the season's major players picking up wins left, right, and centre (Sean Baker's sex worker drama Anora has enjoyed a strong run on the indie circuit and landed a huge win for lead Mikey Madison at the BAFTAs; Jacques Audiard's mob musical Emilia Pérez has overcome recent controversies to win a shedload of awards), all bets are off when it comes to this year's awards race.

The above being said, A Real Pain star Kieran Culkin and Emilia Pérez standout Zoe Saldaña picking up Best Supporting Actor and Actress gongs on Sunday is about as close to a sure thing as you're likely to find: the duo extended their winning streak in those respective categories last night, earning their peers' precious votes. And following a big year for Hollywood's stunt community, the hotly contested Best Action Performance By A Stunt Ensemble award, deservingly, went to the heroes who barrel-rolled, fire-walked, and variously risked their lives to make The Fall Guy.

Elsewhere, over on the TV front, Shōgun cleaned up in all its nominated categories, landing Best Drama Series Ensemble, Best Drama Series Actor for Hiroyuki Sanada and Actress for Anna Sawai, and the Stunt Ensemble (TV) award, too. In the limited series races, Colin Farrell won Best Actor for his Oz Cobb in The Penguin, while Jessica Gunning's extraordinary work in Baby Reindeer was duly recognised with a Best Actress win. And last but not least, Only Murders In The Building took home both the Ensemble award for comedy series and Best Actor for star Martin Short, while Hacks' Jean Smart saw her funny bones commended with a marbled statue for Best Actress.

And so there we have it. With six days to go before the 97th Academy Awards, the SAG Awards have seen James Mangold's A Complete Unknown take off like a rolling stone, proven that Hollywood still can't get enough of The Substance, and shown us that, at least on this particular occasion, not only does no one mourn the Wicked — nobody votes for it either. (For shame!) And now all eyes turn to Sunday night. Our snacks are purchased, our caffeine levels are rising, and our finest garb is ready to go (and stay in the wardrobe, because we'll be in our PJs, because it'll be on really late at night). We'll catch you back here, and on socials, on Sunday night!
