Here's a title dropping bob-ombshell for your Friday afternoon, folks! Following the billion-dollar grossing success of Illumination and Nintendo's The Super Mario Bros. Movie back in 2023, it didn't take long for a follow-up to the Chris Pratt and Charlie Day starring smash to be announced. Now, at today's Nintendo Direct presentation celebrating the moustachioed plumber and his pals' 40th anniversary, legendary game creator Shigeru Miyamoto has confirmed that the sequel will officially be called The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, taking its plot cues from the critically acclaimed Super Mario Galaxy and Galaxy 2 Wii games. Check out the title announcement teaser below;
Let's a-go! A lovely burst of Galaxy's main theme, a glimpse at ol' Mario himself, and even a Luma cameo — what more could you ask for? Oh, you want confirmation of returning voice actors for the sequel? Fair. Well then, the Super Mario Galaxy Movie title drop did bring with it word that Pratt and Day will be back as Mario and Luigi, alongside Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Jack Black as baddie balladeer Bowser, Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek, and Keegan-Michael Key as our boy Toad. Further voice casting announcements will almost certainly follow in due course, so expect word on who'll be bringing the game's guardian of the cosmos Rosalina to life to follow in the coming weeks. (Note that Seth Rogen's Donkey Kong is absent from the current cast list, only adding fuel to recent growing speculation that DK may be breaking out with his own movie soon in the wake of Donkey Kong Bananza's recent mega success.)
Directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is coming to cinemas worldwide on 3 April, 2026. Until then, we're going to replay the Galaxy games until we're dreaming exclusively of Luma... so just another week for us then, really.
