Life Is Strange TV Series In The Works At Amazon From The End Of The F\*\*\*ing World Writer

Gamers, assemble — you won't be wanting to rewind time after getting a load of today's latest game adaptation news. In a week that's already seen Amazon confirm Sophie Turner's casting as Lara Croft in Phoebe Waller-Bridge's upcoming Tomb Raider series, the major player (pun intended) in the game-to-TV space has just added another doozy to its production pipeline. Per Variety's reporting, a Life Is Strange TV series is in the works for Prime Video, with original game developer Square Enix, Story Kitchen, and LuckyChap all aboard to produce.

The End Of The F***ing World writer and KAOS creator Charlie Covell is the chosen one to showrun Prime Video's Life Is Strange, which will adapt the original 2015 game. For those unfamiliar with the franchise — which, to date, spans six titles — the logline supplied to Variety reads as follows: "Life Is Strange follows Max, a photography student who discovers she can rewind time while saving the life of her childhood best friend, Chloe. As she struggles to understand this new skill, the pair investigate the mysterious disappearance of a fellow student, uncovering a dark side to their town that will ultimately force them to make an impossible life or death choice that will impact them forever.”

Now, as fans of the game will be aware, the mechanics of playing Life Is Strange rely heavily on its butterfly effect, choices matter storytelling approach, where every decision you make as a player has a rippling effect on both minor and major plot beats and developments further down the line. But while the way Covell plans to manoeuvre that remains very much to be seen (hopefully they don't take the Until Dawn movie's approach), the showrunner is clearly excited about the challenge. "It’s a huge honor to be adapting Life Is Strange for Amazon MGM Studios,” Covell said in a statement. “I am a massive fan of the game, and I’m thrilled to be working with the incredible teams at Square Enix, Story Kitchen and LuckyChap. I can’t wait to share Max and Chloe’s story with fellow players and new audiences alike.”

With series based on God Of War, Warhammer 40k, Mass Effect, and the aforementioned Tomb Raider all on Amazon's horizon, and Life Is Strange now getting set to join in on the action, Prime Video looks to be cementing its status as the place for quality video game adaptations. One thing's for sure: we'll be there in a camera flash, ready to return to Arcadia Bay, whenever this one lands. Watch this space!
