The Neverending Story is going to be returning to the big screen, with a new film franchise based on the original movie and book series on the way. The original Neverending Story was a book, by Michael Ende, published in 1979. However, it was the 1984 live-action film adaptation (with the same title) that shot the property to iconic status. The story of Bastian Bax, a child who disappears from his difficult life into the pages of a magical book, became a huge hit. It was praised for both the magical story itself, and the special effects, which were cutting-edge at the time. The film quickly became cemented as a core part of Millenial childhoods, and remains a favorite to this day - although the effects are now laughably outdated, and it is due for a revamp.
