Buckle up, baby girl — it's nearly time to go back to Jackson. Two years after Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin's The Last Of Us arrived on our screens, taking Naughty Dog's survival horror video game and turning its devastatingly beautiful (not to mention scary) story of post-apocalyptic America Into the stuff Peak TV dreams are made of, we're now only two months out from the return of Joel and Ellie to our screens. 52 days to be exact. Yes, HBO have now confirmed that The Last Of Us Season 2 will premiere on Max (and presumably Sky over here in Blighty) on 13 April, picking up The White Lotus Season 3's coveted Sunday evening slot. And to mark the announcement, a trio of new character posters focused on Pedro Pascal's Joel, Bella Ramsey's Ellie, and Kaitlyn Dever's cast newcomer Abby have been revealed. Check them out below;
"Every path has a price." So reads the tagline for the new series, nodding not only to the controversial decision made by Joel during Season 1's breathless finale, but to the overarching exploration of consequences that's set to come to the fore in Season 2 as Mazin and Druckmann set about adapting The Last Of Us Part II. As we see in these character posters, which show Joel standing on the watch his daughter Sarah gave him, Ellie walking the fret of her beloved guitar, and Abby stood atop a Firefly pendant, our leads will be forced to reckon with the choices they've made — and the hands they've been dealt — in the series ahead, all while dealing with Clickers, Bloaters, and all manner of Cordyceps stricken proto-zombies.
It's a lot of story Druckmann and Mazin have still to tell, but as we learned last year, while The Last Of Us Season 2 will be shorter than its first outing (seven episodes this time out as opposed to last season's nine), more seasons are on their way. Most recently, the showrunners have suggested that it'll take four seasons in all to do Joel and Ellie's story justice. All of which is to say that our future days will be filled with TLOU for the foreseeable. Roll on 13 April, and until then, don't forget to look for the light.
