This is where the fun begins. 2025 is a big year for Star Wars anniversaries – not only will the end of the year mark 10 years since The Force Awakens arrived (a terrifying comment on the rapid runaway nature of time), but this summer will be 20 years since Anakin Skywalker finally became Darth Vader on screen in Revenge Of The Sith. Yes, that’s two decades of the Mustafar duel, of General Grievous' dastardly wheezing, of the killing of the younglings, of the big lizard chase, of that midwife droid that goes “Ooh-bahh, ooh-bahh”. And, lest we forget, of that all-important High Ground. And if mention of all those things makes you desperate to see Episode III back on the big screen, we bring good news: it’s officially back in cinemas in April.
Just as The Phantom Menace came back to cinemas last year for its 25th anniversary, Revenge Of The Sith will be returning to picturehouses on 25 April – and the re-release comes with a stunning new poster by Matt Ferguson. The reissue will last up to a week, and – in certain cases – will be available to watch for the very first time in 4DX. Don’t get sprayed by those bursts of lava, people! And hey, maybe this time, tragedy will be avoided, Anakin won’t succumb to the teachings of Darth Sidious, Padme will live, and they’ll raise the twins in a nice quiet corner of the galaxy together. Right? Right?
Bookmark the re-release in your calendars, prepare to bring peace, freedom, justice and security to your new empire – and stay tuned to see if The Force Awakens will be back in cinemas come Christmas.
