She's fended off White Walkers, The Night King, and Ramsay Bolton as Sansa Stark in Game Of Thrones. She's absorbed a cosmic entity, become the Dark Phoenix, and nearly-destroyed-but-then-actually-saved the universe as Jean Grey in X-Men: Dark Phoenix. And now it looks like Sophie Turner may just be about to add another iconic heroine to her acting resumé. As reported by THR, the in-demand star is in advanced talks to take on the role of British archaeologist and video game legend Lara Croft in Amazon and Crystal Dynamics' currently in development Tomb Raider series adaptation.
According to THR's sources, screen tests for Amazon's Croft took place in October, with Turner having appeared alongside Mackenzie Davis (Terminator: Dark Fate), Emma Mackey (Sex Education), and Lucy Boynton (Sing Street) on the shortlist to play the dual-wielding explorer. Masterminded by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who's set to serve as both writer and executive producer on the upcoming series, Amazon's Tomb Raider show is set to be the first piece in a multi-format plan to reboot Lara Croft's adventures across TV, film, and a proposed video game, with this latest take on the character following in the footsteps of previous live-action adaptations starring Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander.
With Netflix's recent Hayley Atwell starring anime series Tomb Raider: The Legend Of Lara Croft scoring a second season renewal after striking a chord with fans, and stock in video game adaptations on the small-screen at an all-time high thanks to the likes of The Last Of Us and Fallout, Amazon will be hoping they've hit upon a real treasure with their Tomb Raider deal. And if Sophie Turner does wind up being the one to don the famous leotard and shorts, they can at least be sure their take on the franchise will stand in Stark contrast to what's gone before.
