The competition at the 96th Academy Awards was tough. Most categories saw equal contention for every single nominated film. However, the award for Best Animated Feature was a title fight between the two biggest animated movies of 2023. In the red corner stood Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, the third highest-grossing film of the year. And, in the blue corner stood The Boy and the Heron, the triumphant return of legendary director Hayao Miyazaki.
