Rachel McAdams Eyeing Role In Sam Raimi Horror Thriller Movie Send Help

Anybody down for a Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness reunion? No, we've not got confirmation of a Doctor Strange 3 directed by Sam Raimi just yet (although we do live in hope) — but we are getting word that one of the stars of the Evil Dead director's first foray into the MCU could be about to team up on a new horror thriller. According to Deadline, Rachel McAdams is circling a starring role in Send Help, a 20th Century Studios chiller on which Raimi will serve as both producer and director.

As we reported back in July, Send Help — based on an original script from Baywatch writing duo Damian Shannon and Mark Swift — is currently being pitched as an island-set two-hander that falls somewhere between Rob Reiner's Misery and Robert Zemeckis' Cast Away. Further details on the plot however remain strictly under wraps at this point in time, and whilst it wouldn't be wild to speculate that McAdams' prospective role would almost certainly be a co-leading effort (two-handers generally don't need a third set of digited limbs, after all), nothing's officially been announced as of yet. Hell, technically the movie hasn't actually been greenlit just yet, though McAdams' reported interest in the project certainly won't hurt its prospects.

For Raimi, Send Help would represent the horror maestro's first directorial outing since his tangle with the Master of the Mystic Arts, and his first out-and-out horror effort since 2009's Drag Me To Hell. As for McAdams, the movie would be a marked change of tone and pace from her last major film, Kelly Freeman Craig's cosy coming-of-age confection Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret. That being said, if anyone dies in this one, then we are at least armed with the knowledge that nobody can announce a death quite like McAdams, whose "Oh no! He died!" in Game Night remains perhaps the single greatest line read of this millennia. In fact, we're gonna go revisit that absolute gem right now while we wait for 20th Century Studios to send updates on Send Help so that we can send news for you to send to all your friends.
