Pilot TV Podcast #304: The Penguin, The Wives And Frasier — With Guest Ruth Wilson

This week's Pilot TV Podcast is a bumper, two-hour long edition of your essential guide to all things Peak TV. Our guest on the pod this week is the brilliant Ruth Wilson, who talks to our very own Emily Maitlis Boyd Hilton about Prime Video's Prince Andrew Newsnight debacle dramatisation A Very Royal Scandal, which is out this week but is also heavily embargoed. But whilst it may be off talking limits for James, Kay, and Boyd (try as they might to find a way), it's not for Wilson, who's on typically illuminative form [34:40 — 51:58 approx].

Then, back in the pod booth, the major talking point this week is — of course — the winners, losers, and surprise statuette baggers at this year's Emmy Awards, which took place on Sunday night. Such is the pod squad's commitment to the podding cause that they convened an emergency Emmys drop-in at an ungodly hour this morning to celebrate Shogun's sweeping success, hail Slow Horses' long-awaited first win, and resurrect the debate as to whether The Bear is indeed a comedy or not. All that, and there's still time for James to lament the end of Bosch Legacy and to talk about his latest rewatch of The West Wing.

Then, last but not least, in the reviews section we’re getting a Cobb on with Matt Reeves' The Batman spin-off The Penguin, which lands on Sky Atlantic and Now this week. And we would've been (spell)casting our eyes over the Marvel's new Disney+ show Agatha All Along, but that is also embargoed for now so we’ll be tackling that on this week’s Pilot+. Fear not though, as in the absence of Harkness, we do have the bandwidth to return to Channel 5 for The Wives and to give the Frasier reboot another chance over on Paramount+. Phew! What a week, eh? Perhaps the real winners were you lucky lot all along, with 121 whole minutes of audio excellence to wolf down.

You can listen to this week's episode on your podcast app of choice. And if you want to subscribe to Pilot TV+, find all the details here.
