Mark Ruffalo, John Malkovich And Parker Posey Join Sam Rockwell In Martin McDonagh’s Wild Horse Nine

As filmmakers go, British-Irish director and playwright Martin McDonagh is certainly one of the more well traveled among his peers. He's taken us to Belgium with In Bruges, Los Angeles for Seven Psychopaths, the American Midwest in Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, and a fictitious Irish Island with The Banshees Of Inisherin. For his next joint, Wild Horse Nine, the director is adding another stamp to the passport with a trip all the way out to Easter Island — and he's bringing quite the touring party with him. Per Variety's reporting, Mark Ruffalo, John Malkovich, and Parker Posey are set to join McDonagh regular Sam Rockwell for the BAFTA award winner's latest.
First floated as a potential Christopher Walken and Oscar Isaac starrer back in 2021, Wild Horse Nine — which will mark McDonagh's third collaboration with both Sam Rockwell and Three Billboards and Banshees production banner Searchlight — is being deliberately and carefully shrouded in secrecy for the time being. The logline remains unknown, as well as the project's genre leaning and additional casting (of which sources state more are to come), and the remote shooting location is only adding to the air of mystery surrounding the movie. All we really know thus far is that cameras are due to roll on Rapa Nui, the most remote inhabited island on the planet, next month. At a guess though, based on McDonagh's past works and the secluded choice of setting, we reckon it's reasonably safe to presume that this probably isn't going to be a destination rom-com or a cute wildlife flick... though you never can be sure with McD (as nobody calls him.)
While we wait for more on Wild Horse Nine, we can at least look forward to some exciting new shows and movies from its stars. Up next for the leading line-up we'll be seeing Mark Ruffalo next month in Bong Joon Ho's sci-fi joint Mickey 17; John Malkovich's Ayo Edebiri co-starring A24 horror Opus is well on its way; Sam Rockwell's cool-as-you-like Mr Wolf is going to be back back back in DreamWorks' The Bad Guys 2 this summer; and Parker Posey will be checking into The White Lotus on 17 February.
Even with all of that ahead of us though, we've already been Wild Horse Nine pilled and need answers. Are Posey and co four of said wild horses? Who will be the other five? Are the horses literal? Or is it some sort of squadron/cult/gang name? And if it is any of those things, can we join? These questions and many, many more will haunt us until we learn more about McDonagh's latest. For now at least though, colour us very intrigued...
