Leo Woodall is rapidly adding to his infinity gauntlet of roles with major streamers. Having starred in The White Lotus on Sky/Max, Prime Video's Citadel, and won our hearts as Dex in Netflix's One Day, the rapidly rising British actor is next set to front numbers based Apple TV+ conspiracy thriller Prime Target. Here he plays Edward Brooks, a mathematical genius who becomes a person of interest due to his groundbreaking work on numbers divisible only by themself and one. Yes, he is the Prime target... in more ways than one. Check out the trailer for the sort-of Good Will Hunting meets The Bourne Identity via Dan Brown looking show below:
Our introduction to Woodall's cool-as-you-like boffin Brooks in this first trailer for the series, created by Sherlock alum Steve Thompson, sees the young genius diss Isaac Newton as "full of it" to his lecturer (David Morrissey). The tone and pace shifts rapidly when Brooks starts talking about the behaviour of numbers and the possibilities within prime numbers, which has yer man Morrissey looking very worried and shadowy figures descending upon our hero quicksharp. Before he knows it, Cambridge is a dot in Brooks' rearview and he's unearthing a government conspiracy that goes all the way to the top (don't they all?) with Quintessa Swindell's NSA agent Taylah. Cue glitching city centre screens, a very severe looking Martha Plimpton, and all the trimmings of a prestige Apple TV production that'll almost certainly fly under the radar before winding up on everyone's Best Of 2025 lists. In other words, looks like we've got a good'un incoming.
And here's the official synopsis: "A brilliant young math postgraduate, Edward Brooks (Woodall), is on the verge of a major breakthrough. If he succeeds in finding a pattern in prime numbers, he will hold the key to every computer in the world. Soon, he begins to realize an unseen enemy is trying to destroy his idea before it’s even born, which throws him into the orbit of Taylah Sanders, an NSA agent (Swindell) who’s been tasked with watching and reporting on mathematicians’ behavior. Together, they start to unravel the troubling conspiracy Edward is at the heart of." Stephen Rea, Jason Flemyng, Harry Lloyd, and Fra Fee also co-star.
Will Prime Target be the latest fine addition to Apple TV+? Will it do numbers for the streamer in the Nielsen ratings? Or is it destined to prove less than the sum of its parts? We'll find out when the series premieres on 22 January. And don't be surprised if Woodall pops up in a Marvel or Star Wars joint one of these days — the Disney+ stone shall be his!
