Kathryn Newton Joins Ready Or Not 2 Cast Alongside Samara Weaving

Back in October, we shared the very exciting if ever so slightly head-frazzling news that Tyler Gillett and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin's 2019 horror-comedy Ready Or Not has a sequel in the works at Searchlight Pictures, with star Samara Weaving set to return as shotgun-toting final girl Grace. Since then, it's been pretty much radio silence from the Radio Silence boys as they tinker away at their latest chiller — until now. Per Deadline's reporting, the horror movie maestros are set to reteam with Abigail star Kathryn Newton on Ready Or Not 2.

Much like the plot for Gillett and Bettinelli-Olpin's sequel, Newton's role in the movie is currently being kept hush-hush. And beyond the confirmation that Weaving is reprising her role as badass bride Grace from the first film, we don't have a Scooby what form returning scribes Guy Busick and R. Christopher Murphy's RONCU expansion will take or what their latest lot of deadly parlour games may entail. Considering how the first movie's ending played out, with *SPOILER ALERT* yer gal Grace's (Weaving) dodgy in-laws spontaneously combusting after failing to make good on their ages-old family deal with the Devil, it would be fair to say that the slate has been very much wiped clean for any follow-up.

While info on the new film is vanishingly sparse for the moment, Newton's casting is nevertheless a very promising sign. In recent years, the rising star has proven her genre chops in the likes of body-swap slasher Freaky, Zelda Williams' YA horror-comedy Lisa Frankenstein, and the aforementioned Radio Silence vampire ballerina joint Abigail. Whether Newton's, er, ready or not to enter the Ready Or Not Cinematic Universe remains to be seen, but after an extended spell in the Quantum Realm in Ant-Man & The Wasp: Quantumania, we reckon she'll be a dab hand dealing with — or indeed serving — a satanic curse. Run, run, run! Time to run and hide...
