Freddie Prinze Jr. & Jennifer Love Hewitt Are Back In I Know What You Did Last Summer Reboot Trailer

In a cinematic landscape rife with legacy horror sequels — from Scream to Saw X, Final Destination: Bloodlines to the recently announced Scary Movie 5 — it takes something truly hooky to stand out and capture our collective attention. In the case of I Know What You Did Last Summer, Do Revenge director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson's upcoming resurrection of the iconic 90s slasher series, we're getting something that's hooky not only because of its stellar cast of up-and-comers (Madelyn Cline! Jonah Hauer King! Chase Sui Wonders!) and franchise legends (Freddie Prinze Jr.! Jennifer Love Hewitt!), but also because its killer quite literally has a big ol' fish hook to shank our secret keeping cadavers-in-waiting with. Such fun! Speaking of, here's a brand spanking new trailer for the hotly anticipated legacyquel:

A guided meditation gone wrong. The familiar *schlink* sound of the fish hook making college-aged human kebabs. Jennifer Love Hewitt literally uttering the words, "What did you do last summer?" Yeah, we're thinking Kevin Williamson's other iconic horror creation is back. This first look at I Know What You Did Last Summer is pretty much everything fans of the franchise would be hoping for, teasing a new dark secret (this time five friends' involvement in a deadly car accident), a new band of shit-scared teens at the mercy of the fish hook killer, some gnarly kills, and the returns of on-screen husband and wife Freddie Prinze Jr. and Jennifer Love Hewitt as Ray Bronson and Julie James. Interestingly however, the two 1997 Southport Massacre survivors — who we last saw as newlyweds at the end of I Still Know What You Did Last Summer — aren't shown together here, throwing up the possibility that we'll find Ray and Julie's relationship in a different state potentially to where we left it. Hmm...

Here's the official synopsis for the movie, which also stars Sarah Pidgeon, Tyriq Withers, Billy Campbell, and Austin Nichols: "When five friends inadvertently cause a deadly car accident, they cover up their involvement and make a pact to keep it a secret rather than face the consequences. A year later, their past comes back to haunt them and they’re forced to confront a horrifying truth: someone knows what they did last summer…and is hell-bent on revenge. As one by one the friends are stalked by a killer, they discover this has happened before, and they turn to two survivors of the massacre of 1997 for help."

Who is under the hood this time around? Could Muse Watson’s murderous Ben Willis still be out there? And will our protagonists — old and new — make it out alive?
