11 years on from very publicly — and very prematurely — announcing his retirement, prolific American auteur Steven Soderbergh continues to be one of the biggest and busiest filmmaker in the business. And whilst the Ocean's movie mastermind's most recent effort, horror-thriller Presence, has yet to officially hit cinemas following its Sundance premiere earlier this year, that hasn't stopped ol' Soderbergh from setting a release date for his next film. Per Deadline's reporting, Soderbergh's Cate Blanchett and Michael Fassbender starring spy drama Black Bag — which we first found out about back in January — is set to hit cinemas on 14 March, 2025.
Written by Soderbergh's Kimi collaborator and Jurassic Park screenwriting legend David Koepp, precious little is known about Black Bag's plot as of yet — although we'd confidently hazard a guess that the title's not just Soderbergh reminding himself which week's bins to put out. What we do know however is that the Magic Mike moviemaker has assembled one of his starriest ensembles to date for his high-stakes mystery, with Regé-Jean Page (Dungeons & Dragons: Honour Among Thieves), Marisa Abela (Back To Black), Naomie Harris (28 Days Later), Tom Burke (Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga) and Pierce Brosnan (Mamma Mia!) joining Fassbender and Blanchett for some espionage action here.
Casey Silver and Greg Jacobs are set to produce this one, which also represents a reunion for Soderbergh with his The Good German lead Blanchett and Haywire alum Fassbender. We'll find out what's in Soderbergh's Black Bag when that 14 March, 2025 release date rolls around. In the meantime however, we can look forward to watching Blanchett head for the Borderlandsin Eli Roth's blockbuster videogame adaptation on 9 August, whilst Fassbender will next be seen in Irish comedy-drama Kneecap, which reaches UK cinemas exactly a month from today on 23 August!
