As you’ve likely heard people saying for years now, Andor is truly excellent TV – whether you’re a Star Wars super-fan, or someone who only dabbles in the galaxy far, far away. And now, with just two months to go until the second (and final) season of Tony Gilroy’s revolutionary drama gets underway, we finally have a teaser trailer, promising an explosive return from a Star Wars story like no other. Get ready for the return of Diego Luna’s Cassian Andor – alongside a rich tapestry of rebels from across the galactic firmament – and give the Season 2 trailer a here:
First up, let’s talk about the show itself: there’s plenty to look forward to in Andor’s return, which will span the four years running up to the events of Rogue One, jumping forward a year every three episodes. (The first season was set across the course of a single year, often with large jumps along the way.) That means a rapid escalation of the Galactic civil war, with Stellan Skarsgard’s Luthen Rael, Genevieve O’Reilly’s Mon Mothma, Adria Arjona’s Bix Caleen, and Forest Whitaker’s Saw Gerrera all throwing themselves into the fight-back. And on the other side, we don’t just have the return of Denise Gough’s rising officer Dedra Meero and Kyle Soller’s snivelling Syril Karn – we also have Rogue One’s Orson Krennic (Ben Mendelsohn) joining the show, as he oversees the construction of the Death Star. Plus, Alan Tudyk’s sardonic droid K-2SO enters the picture here.
There are brief but fascinating glimpses of what’s happening across the galaxy – not just war, but was that Mon Mothma… dancing? Who is Saw Gerrera giving that slightly terrifying speech to? And how great does Krennic look back in that cape again?
Away from what we see in the teaser, the trailer itself is interesting – this is a piece of promo seemingly aimed at the Star Wars agnostic, looking to hook new audiences in with the considerable acclaim lauded upon Season 1, soundtracking things to some Earthbound rock music (Steve Earle’s ‘The Revolution Starts Now’, specifically), and touting Andor for exactly what it is: premium small-screen Star Wars for the prestige TV crowd. The time is now to join Andor’s cause. Andor Season 2 comes to Disney+ from 22 April.
