As Kermit The Frog once said, "Life is made up of meetings and partings. That is the way of it." And so it follows that on the same day we have seen The Boys' Antony Starr bid an emotional farewell to Homelander as shooting wraps on his iconic TV villain, fans of Eric Kripke's effed-up, R-rated are also getting their first proper look at what's next. Yes, earlier today, Amazon Prime Video released a series of first-look photos for Vought Rising, the streamer's upcoming, post-WWII set prequel series. And you can check them out below;
Goodbye 21st Century supersuits — hello Golden Age clobber! As the portraits above make very clear, showrunner Paul Grellong's The Boys prequel is going all in on its period setting. We've got Jensen Ackles' Soldier Boy eyemasked up and in his prime; Elizabeth Posey leaning into the Forces' sweetheart aesthetic as Private Angel; Mason Dye getting his WWII fighter pilot look on as Bombsight; and Will Hochman serving in naval royal blue as Torpedo. Conspicuously absent from these cast shots is previously announced series co-lead Aya Cash, but rest assured that the star, whose Stormfront was the first successful test subject for one Frederick Vought's Compound V, will get plenty of screentime in the upcoming show.
As Kripke and Grellong outlined when Vought Rising was initially ordered to series, the prequel is "a twisted murder mystery about the origins of Vought in the 1950s, the early exploits of Soldier Boy, and the diabolical manoeuvres of a Supe known to fans as Stormfront, who was then going by the name Clara Vought." How exactly all of the prequel's elements come together very much remains to be seen — and the show doesn't have a release timeframe just yet. But until we catch up with Soldier Boy and co, there's still plenty for The Boys fans to get hyped for. College spin-off Gen V returns for Season 2 next month, the mainline show's fifth and final season is barrelling through production as it shoots towards a 2026 release, and there's even an animated anthology in the pipeline, too. Diabolical stuff — in the best way!
