Timothy Olyphant To Star Alongside Anya Taylor-Joy In Apple TV+ Thriller Lucky

When Timothy Olyphant stars in a major TV series — Justified, The Mandalorian, Daisy Jones & The Six — that's lucky. But when Timothy Olyphant stars in a major Apple TV+ limited series based on a bestselling Marissa Stapley thriller, well then that would be Lucky. Yes, per Deadline's reporting, the man with the finest hair on the box has signed up to star alongside Anya Taylor-Joy and Annette Bening in showrunner Jonathan Tropper and exec producer Reese Witherspoon's hotly anticipated new show.

In the series, which is set to feature several episodes directed by Shōgun helmsman Jonathan Van Tulleken, Olyphant will play the father of Taylor-Joy's titular tearaway. For those unfamiliar with Stapley's book, Lucky follows the eponymous Lucky Armstrong, a skilled grifter raised into a life of crime who finds herself forced to embrace her roots once more in order to seize a chance at a fresh start. Given the pivotal role Lucky's father John — a smooth-talking con who appears both in flashback and present-set chapters — plays in the book, it'll be fascinating to see how that bond translates between Olyphant and Taylor-Joy on screen. And to find out exactly how Benning's character, thus far described only as 'a dangerous mob leader', factors into the narrative's dramatic equation.

For Taylor-Joy, Lucky will be the Furiosa star's first leading TV role since heading up the cast of The Queen's Gambit back in 2020, and will likely be the next thing we see her in after Scott Derrickson's The Gorge — another buzzy Apple TV+ project. As for Olyphant, he'll next be seen in Noah Hawley's Alien: Earth this summer — or, if Gareth Evans has his way, Netflix bound Tom Hardy co-starrer HAVOC. So while we wait to find out whether Lucky will prove to be a source of (Anya Taylor-)Joy for Apple TV, or if the prestige thriller will become the Olyphant in the room that nobody wants to talk about, there's plenty from both of its stars to look forward to in the meantime.
