The Real Reason O’Brien And Bashir Play Darts In Star Trek: DS9

Bashir and O'Brien had a fierce racquetball rivalry in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, so why did they swap their racquets for darts in DS9 season 3?

The Real Reason O’Brien And Bashir Play Darts In Star Trek: DS9

There are both real world and story reasons for why Chief Miles O'Brien (Colm Meaney) and Dr. Julian Bashir (Alexander Siddig) play darts in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. Although they became one of Star Trek's strongest friendships, O'Brien and Bashir had a rocky road to cementing their winning partnership in DS9's early days. The two Star Trek: DS9 characters initially had a slightly antagonistic relationship, with the young and arrogant Bashir regularly irritating DS9's stoic chief engineer. However, they soon became firm friends and regularly spent time at Quark's Bar, playing darts or participating in holosuite simulations of historical battles.
