The Clock Is Ticking For Tom Hiddleston In Trailer For Mike Flanagan’s The Life Of Chuck

While Stephen King is rightfully known as the Master of Horror (being the man responsible for The Shining, IT, and Carrie will do that for you), the prolific novelist could just as easily be called the Master of Feels. After all, without King, there is no Stand By Me, no The Shawshank Redemption, no The Green Mile. It makes sense then that Mike Flanagan, whose propensity for combining horror and heartfelt storytelling has made the likes of Midnight Mass and The Haunting Of Hill House unmissable, has proven one of King's best adapters. And having done both Doctor Sleep and Gerald's Game great justice on screen already, Flanagan's latest King movie, Tom Hiddleston starrer The Life Of Chuck, looks set to be one of his most emotional works yet. And you can catch a glimpse at the film below;
Now we know what you're thinking, "This teaser trailer is all tease and no trailer, man!" And you would, largely, be right. But this peek at Flanagan's adaptation of the second story from King's 2020 novella collection If It Bleeds isn't without intrigue. From the ticking clock motif, to the gorgeous golden hour shots we get of Hiddleston's everyman Charles Krantz and his younger selves (played by Jacob Tremblay and Benjamin Pajak), to the delicate piano work underpinning it all, you don't doubt it when the trailer describes the movie as coming 'from the heart and soul of Mike Flanagan'; and given the film's set-up — a story told in reverse about an everyman whose death coincides with the literal apocalypse — you can bet your life it'll be a picture that hits our hearts and souls too. And as if that ain't enough already, the teaser also spells out the film's title as it runs us through that stacked cast list: Hiddleston, Matthew Lillard, Karen Gillan, David Dastmalchian, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Kate Siegel, Rahul Kohli, Nick Offerman, Carl Lumbly, actual Mark Hamill... c'mon!
A hit already at last year's Toronto International Film Festival, The Life Of Chuck hasn't set in stone a release date just yet. Who knows? Maybe it's already happened, and we'll all start living in reverse until we arrive at that day! Or, more likely, it'll follow shortly after the film's June US release. Either way, tissues at the ready folks — we've got a feeling we're gonna need 'em...
