Star Wars: Starfighter New Photo Sees Ryan Gosling And Flynn Gray Stranded At Sea

Forget a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away — our latest piece of Star Wars intel is actually coming from a very short time ago in, well, the Mediterranean Sea. Last month, Shawn Levy marked the start of production on his first Star War, Star Wars: Starfighter, by sharing a moody black-and-white photo of its stars — Ryan Gosling and Flynn Gray — posing astride what looked like some sort of Landspeeder. Today, from somewhere off the coast of Sardinia, Italy, Levy — who's described making Starfighter as "the thrill of a lifetime" — took to Instagram once more to share a fresh snap of Gosling and Flynn in costume. And this one's in colour! Check it out below;

Now, full disclosure, we know that this fresh snap doesn't exactly tell us a hell of a lot about what Levy and writer Jonathan Tropper have been cooking with their standalone, post-The Rise Of Skywalker set caper — but that doesn't make this new look from on set (well, at sea) any less intriguing. For starters, Gosling's rocking a bruised cheek and a leathers-laden get-up that harkens back to Ralph McQuarrie's OG Han Solo concept art, leaning into a sense that our man hero's going to have more of the scoundrel than the Skywalker about him. And if that's not enough to get your nerdy heart racing just a little, then the double whammy of Flynn Gray with his holster looking all set for his own hero's journey and promise of a new Star Wars movie whose horizons expand a little farther than jungles, deserts, and occasional Sith cultist caves is surely worth an eyebrow raise. Plus! Actual location shooting! What a time to be alive!

Joining Gosling and Gray on their cosmic joyride is an all-star line-up, including *deep breath* Matt Smith, Mia Goth, Aaron Pierre, Amy Adams, Hamilton West End star Jamael Westman, and actual Will off The Inbetweeners, Simon Bird. How they all factor into Starfighter's interstellar equation very much remains to be seen, but one thing's for certain: 28 May, 2027 can't come soon enough. Thank the Mortis Gods we have The Mandalorian & Grogu to look forward to next year in the meantime!
