Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse Will Be Directed By Bob Persichetti And Justin K. Thompson

All right, let's do this one last time. In 2018, Sony Pictures Animation released Spider-Man: Into The Spiderverse, introducing the world to Brooklyn teen Miles Morales (Shameik Moore) and a multiversal array of Spidey pals, changing the game for superhero storytelling — and Hollywood animation — in the process. In 2023, Sony Pictures Animation released Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse, reintroduced the world to Miles Morales, a multiversal array of Spidey pals, took the franchise quite literally to whole new dimensions, and changed the game again. And now, per Deadline's reporting, we're learning that Bob Persichetti and Justin K. Thompson — co-directors on Into and Across The Spider-Verse respectively — will be bringing us back into the world of Miles Morales and his Spidey pals once again with Beyond The Spider-Verse.

"We have had the immense privilege of being part of Miles’ journey from the very beginning, and directing the conclusion to his story is beyond exciting,” said Persichetti and Thompson in a joint statement accompanying their announcement as directors. “The creativity and care poured into every minute of this project has been truly inspiring. We have crafted what we feel is a very satisfying ending, and we can’t wait for fans to experience it – we’re bringing everything we’ve got!”

Franchise producers and Beyond The Spider-Verse co-writers Phil Lord and Chris Miller — who've penned the series' final chapter alongside David Callaham — were quick to praise their directorial appointments for the film. In a shared statement, they said: "Bob and Justin’s fingerprints are woven into the DNA of these films, and their passion for Miles’ journey shines through in every frame of his last adventure,” said Lord and Miller. “There is nothing more rewarding than collaborating with creative partners with bold vision and brilliant execution like Bob and Justin.  We are thrilled to work with them once again to create a beautiful and satisfying conclusion to this story.”

With the recent (seeming) demise of SPUMC and currently up in the air status of Sony's future Marvel plans (Spider-Noir is the only other Sony Marvel project actively in production that isn't tied to the MCU), there's a lot riding on Beyond The Spider-Verse — which is probably why it's release date has already been pushed back several times. But while plot details on the final chapter in the Spider-Verse trilogy remain firmly under wraps for now, after the epic multi-Miles featuring climax of Across The Spider-Verse, it's safe to say that things have been suitably teed up for a humdinger of a finale. Now it's over to Persichetti and Thompson to see if they can take a big swing and stick the landing — or whether their Spider-Verse will come to a, uhh, sticky end.
