Sophie Turner Cast As Lara Croft In Tomb Raider Series From Phoebe Waller-Bridge

Anyone got a twin pair of pistols (and a holster) handy? There’s white smoke emerging from the Tomb Raider chimney, as the next Lara Croft has been chosen – an actor who’s no stranger to big action, with several franchises under her utility belt. Sophie Turner will be following in the footsteps of Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander, set to lead the long-awaited live-action series from Prime Video.

The show was first reported on over two years ago at this point, with Phoebe Waller-Bridge as creator, writer and executive producer – she’ll now be joined by Chad Hodge as exec producer and co-showrunner, with production on the series expected to begin in January 2026. “I am thrilled beyond measure, to be playing Lara Croft,” said Turner in a statement. “She’s such an iconic character, who means so much to so many – and I am giving everything I’ve got. They’re massive shoes to fill, following in the steps of Angelina and Alicia with their powerhouse performances, but with Phoebe at the helm, we (and Lara) are all in very safe hands. I can’t wait for you all to see what we have cooking.”

It remains to be seen where Turner’s Croft will be pitched – Vikander’s version was heavily inspired by the reboot game from 2013, in a stylistic turn from the more outlandish Jolie version. Hopefully there’ll be big action, relics aplenty, and a fresh take on the mythology.
