Robert Pattinson and Zendaya are, arguably, two of the biggest stars on the planet right now. The former is DC's Batman, Bong Joon Ho's Mickey 17 (and all the other Mickeys too), and Edward frickin' Cullen for crying out loud; the latter is the MCU's own MJ, Luca Guadagnino's Challengers muse, and soon to be seen alongside R-Pattz in Christopher Nolan's currently shooting latest epic The Odyssey. And, if Deadline's sources are accurate, it looks like the in-demand duo may be shooting another blockbuster epic for a beloved auteur together before the year is through. Namely, Denis Villeneuve's Dune 3 — aka Dune: Messiah.
According to Deadline's gossip strand 'The Dish', Villeneuve and Legendary are eyeing Pattinson to play Messiah's shapeshifting antagonist Scytale, a transhuman Face Dancer whose ability to perfectly mimic the likeness and personality of others has wide-reaching ramifications not only for Lisan al Gaib Paul Atreides, but the wider Duniverse (as nobody calls it) as a whole. Now, it is worth noting that no formal offer has been made to Pattinson as of yet, but Villeneuve's major pulling power and the already stacked expected cast of the Quebecois auteur's final Dune movie (Anya Taylor-Joy! Florence Pugh! Timothée Chalamet!) will doubtless give the between roles Batman star food for thought. And what's more, with Jason Momoa recently talking up his involvement in the upcoming movie, despite his character Duncan Idaho's death in the first Dune, seeds are definitely being sown for events from Frank Herbert's Messiah involving Scytale and a version of Idaho to play out on the big screen...
Before we return to the sands of Arrakis one more time, with or without Pattinson in tow, we can look forward to seeing the actor star alongside Zendaya not only in Nolan's The Odyssey, but also in recently wrapped A24 drama, er, The Drama, from Dream Scenario director Kristoffer Borgli. Speaking of dream scenarios though, just imagine Denis Villeneuve directing Timmy C and R-Pattz in the final part of an epic, decade defining sci-fi trilogy. To quote one Alia Atreides, "You are not prepared for what is to come." Doesn't stop us wanting it though, mind. Watch this space!
