Plot armor referred to when a character was so important to the story of a show that they were impossible to kill off without that marking the end of the entire series. This realization meant that even when the main characters found themselves facing certain death, all logic pointed to them making it out alive. This can often lower the stakes for viewers, as they know no matter how grim things look, the main characters simply must discover a way to save their lives, as otherwise there would be no upcoming episode or season to look forward to.
